Ever since I was a kid, music videos have been in my face. I used to watch MTV religiously, Yo! MTV Raps being my main inspiration. Videos by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, and Outkast inspired me to direct videos of my own once I discovered photography. Directors like Hype Williams and David LaChapelle (yes, the latter once made music videos) showed me the different ways of directing music videos on a grand scale.
In the beginning, I struggled with workflow of video. It was much more demanding and time consuming than photo retouching and I wasn’t prepared. The time I put in to learn was worth it in the end. One of the first people to give me a shot with video was a man by the name of Cash Hollistah. He is someone I’ve known for most of my life and so we naturally took to working together.
The first video is our first video together. The second is our last. Check out the progression and give Cash Hollistah a search on your Google machine.
